All of our staff working in Bangladesh provide services directly to the hospital and communities we serve.

BANGLADESHI Staff: Lutheran Health Care Bangladesh

Dr. Granar Marak-Executive Director: As a servanthood leader, Dr. Marak envisions a proactive future. He strategically leads, encourages and inspires the staff as well as their community to discover their full potential to transform lives. Mr. Marak fixes and restores things once broken and thus nurtures the works of God for His own people.  

Presently there are 2 doctors and 15 nurses in addition to other support staff members living and working in Dumki, Bangladesh.

Rev. Lynn Peterson (President)

Born to Bud and Jeannette Peterson, Pastor Lynn grew up grounded in faith, family, and service, shaped by church life, outdoor adventures, and formative multicultural experiences, including family medical service trips to India and Cameroon. Time in South Africa with liberation theologians set me on the path to seminary, leading to joyful years pastoring congregations in Washington and a deeply moving 1997 visit to LHCB with my father. I later adopted my daughter, Ryda, from Cambodia and served at Calvary Lutheran in Minnesota, strengthening global partnerships and returning to LHCB several times. I am profoundly grateful for the chance to serve LHCB, where I have been Board President since 2016, and remain committed to working together for God’s hope and healing in the world.

Mr. Bill Scott, Jr. (Treasurer)

Bill Scott grew up in India, where his parents served as medical missionaries, and later attended boarding school in Mussoorie before settling in Minneapolis. His career path has been that of a luthier. Making violins, violas and cellos. He and his wife Susan have two sons and four cherished grandchildren. Bill has served on the LHCB-USA Board of Directors since 2004. He is active in the violin‑making community as a member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers, a board member of the Oberlin Violin Making Foundation, and Past President of the Violin Society of America.

Mr. Dave Kufahl (Secretary)

Dave Kufahl is a retired mechanical engineer, Golden Valley resident who, with his wife Kay, enjoys life near their longtime church home, Calvary Lutheran. They have three married children and ten grandchildren, with two families close by and one in Ohio. When not with family, Dave spends time woodworking and relaxing at their summer lake cabin. He joined the LHCB‑USA board in 2019 after longtime connections with Pastor Lynn and Bill Scott, inspired both by the hospital’s care and its unique opportunity to share the gospel in Bangladesh.

Rev. Stephanie Friesen

Stephanie Friesen serves as one of the pastors at Central Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis, a founding congregation of Lutheran Healthcare Bangladesh and a long‑time ministry partner. For nine years she has led in teaching and learning, pastoral care, worship, and children, youth, and family ministry. Her 2018 trip to Bangladesh with nine women was a pivotal moment in her understanding of the global church, and meeting the people of LHCB deeply shaped her sense of shared mission.

Mr. Dave Thorp

David Thorp has served on the LHCB‑USA Board since 2019, bringing his experience as a retired CPA to support the organization through fiscal challenges first introduced to him by fellow board member Bill Scott Jr. After learning about LHCB through Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, he grew to deeply appreciate the reports highlighting LHCB’s impact—especially its care for expecting and new mothers. David and his wife Debbie enjoy life with their three married sons, five granddaughters, and two grandsons, often gathering together at their lake home in northern Wisconsin.

LHCB-Bangladesh

Mr. Henry John Baroi-Chair: Holding a Master’s Degree and a banker by profession, he strategically leads the organization in compliance and customer satisfactions.

Mr. Papri Devi Areng-Vice Chairman: Holding a Master’s Degree in Bengali Literature, with proven experiences in leading social development institutions playing roles as vice president in Dhaka Christian Credit Union.    

Rev. Dr. David Tonmoy Biswas-Executive Board Member: Highly and technically equipped as a physician he is a servant of God. Also, as a minister he strategically leads and supports the Healing Ministry of LHCB in providing quality and affordable health services as mandated and called for.  

Rev. Andrew Biswas-Executive Board Member: Holds a Master Degree in Divinity, as he upholds everyone involved in God’s work. Shares the power and blessings of God through constantly praying and praising His name with a thankful and joyful heart.

Ms. Rebecca Quiah-Executive Board Member: A university graduate, she celebrates more than 40 years of working experience with international NGOs. Ms. Quiah treasures her time with people as well as fellow Executive Board members, infusing strengths and inspirations for continuing God’s work among the communities living in desperate needs.
